(a) Intrinsically Safe (IS) Circuit and Explosion-Proof (EP) Circuit
Intrinsically Safe Circuit (Ex i):
An intrinsically safe circuit is designed so that the electrical energy present—voltage, current, and power—is always kept below the minimum level required to ignite a hazardous atmosphere. This limitation applies during both normal operation and fault conditions (such as short circuits, open circuits, or component failure).
Therefore, even if a spark or a hot surface is generated, it cannot ignite flammable gases or vapors.
