#### Concept of the Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII)
The Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII) is a mandatory operational efficiency measure introduced by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) under MARPOL Annex VI, Regulation 28. It became effective on 1st January 2023 for all ships of 5,000 Gross Tonnage and above.
* **Objective**: To provide a measure of a ship's operational carbon efficiency and drive continuous, year-on-year improvements to meet the IMO's target of a 40% reduction in carbon intensity by 2030, compared to 2008 levels.
