#### **(i) Types of Stress**
Stress ($$\sigma$$) is defined as the internal restoring force per unit of cross-sectional area that a material experiences when subjected to an external load. It is a measure of the internal forces that particles of a continuous material exert on each other. The unit of stress is Pascals (Pa) or N/m².
