**1. Process:**
Honing is a precision abrading process used for finishing internal cylindrical surfaces, such as engine cylinder liners. It utilizes abrasive stones, known as hones, which are mounted on a mandrel. The mandrel rotates and reciprocates simultaneously within the bore. This combined motion generates a characteristic cross-hatch pattern on the cylinder surface. A cutting fluid is used to cool the workpiece and flush away removed material (swarf).
