Reference Answer

### (a) Procedure to Stop an Overspeeding Auxiliary Engine (6 Marks)
Upon detection of an overspeed condition where the primary automatic overspeed trip has failed to actuate, the following sequential actions must be taken to stop the engine, prioritizing the safest methods first.
1. **Remote Emergency Stop:**
* The first and safest action is to attempt to stop the engine remotely from the Engine Control Room (ECR) or the local control panel using the emergency stop button. This action typically de-energizes a fuel solenoid valve, cutting off the fuel supply to the engine instantly and safely.
