Reference Answer

### (a) Description and Function of Anchor Equipment
#### (i) Hawse Pipe
* **Description**:
The hawse pipe is a heavy-duty, thick-walled cast steel tube that passes through the ship's bow structure on both port and starboard sides. Its internal surface is machined to be smooth to minimize friction and wear on the anchor chain. The pipe is angled downwards and outwards to ensure the anchor and chain clear the ship's hull and any bulbous bow during deployment and retrieval.
