* **Voltage Stability and Regulation**: The fundamental purpose of an AVR is to regulate the excitation current supplied to the alternator's main field winding. By precisely controlling the magnetic field strength within the alternator, the AVR ensures that the terminal voltage remains within tight specified tolerances (typically ±1% to ±2.5%) even when the electrical load connected to the alternator fluctuates significantly. This prevents voltage dips during load application and voltage surges during load shedding.
