#### 1. Definition and Location
A 'coffin' plate is a specific steel plate forming part of the inner bottom plating (tank top) of a ship. It is located at the extreme aft end of the machinery space, just forward of the aft peak bulkhead and immediately forward of the entrance to the propeller shaft tunnel. It forms the top plate of the aft drain well or cofferdam.
