Reference Answer

### (a) Leak Detection and Rectification in a Heat Exchanger
#### **Procedure for Leak Detection (Pressure Testing)**
1. **Isolation and Safety**: The first critical step is to isolate the heat exchanger from the system. This involves shutting and securing the inlet and outlet valves for both the shell-side fluid (e.g., Lube Oil, LT Central Cooling Water) and the tube-side fluid (e.g., Sea Water). The system must be depressurized, vented, and drained. Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO) procedures must be strictly followed.
2. **Dismantling**: Remove the end covers (water boxes) from both ends of the heat exchanger. This exposes the tube plates and tube ends for inspection.
