**(i) Hawse Pipe**
* **Description:** The Hawse Pipe is a heavy, thick-walled cylindrical or oval steel casting or fabrication that passes through the ship's bow structure, connecting the forecastle deck to the exterior shell plating. Its internal surface is exceptionally smooth to minimize friction and wear on the anchor cable. It is angled downwards and outwards to ensure the anchor drops clear of the bulbous bow and stows correctly against the hull.
