Reference Answer

### Part (a): Function and Application of an Eductor
#### **Function of an Eductor**
An eductor, also known as an ejector, is a type of jet pump that operates with no moving parts. Its primary function is to use a high-velocity jet of a 'motive' or 'driving' fluid (liquid or gas) to entrain, mix with, and carry away a second 'suction' fluid. This process effectively pumps the suction fluid from a lower pressure area to a higher pressure discharge area.
The core operation is based on the **Venturi effect**, where the pressure of a fluid decreases as its speed increases. The eductor is designed to deliberately create a region of very low pressure (vacuum) that provides the suction force.
