**1. Definition**
The 'assigned summer freeboard' is the vertical distance measured downwards amidships from the upper edge of the deck line to the upper edge of the Summer Load Line, marked 'S'. It represents the minimum permissible freeboard in the designated summer seasonal zone and corresponds to the maximum draught to which a vessel can be loaded in that zone.
