(b)Explain the working principle of a double acting reciprocating pump. (4)

(c) State,

### (a) Piston-Type Positive Displacement Pump & Application for Bilge Pumping
A positive displacement pump where the fluid is displaced by the movement of a piston is commonly known as a reciprocating pump. A simple example is the single-acting piston pump.
**Description of a Single-Acting Reciprocating Pump:**
* **Principle of Operation:** This pump operates on the principle of positive displacement. A precisely defined (positive) volume of fluid is drawn into a cylinder on the suction stroke and then forced out into the discharge line on the delivery stroke. The volume delivered is directly proportional to the piston speed and pump dimensions.
