Reference Answer

### (a) Tubular Heat Exchanger (Charge Air Cooler)
A tubular heat exchanger, such as a main engine charge air cooler, is a critical component used to cool the air after the turbocharger and before it enters the engine cylinders. Cooling the air increases its density, which allows a greater mass of air to be supplied to the cylinder, thereby improving engine power output and thermal efficiency.
#### Construction & Description
The heat exchanger is typically of the shell-and-tube type, with a single-pass or two-pass configuration for the cooling medium (water).
