Reference Answer

### (a) Conditions for Paralleling an AC Generator with Live Bus-Bars
For an incoming AC generator (alternator) to be safely connected in parallel with live bus-bars that are already being supplied by one or more running generators, four critical conditions must be satisfied. Failure to meet these conditions can result in severe electrical and mechanical stresses, potentially causing catastrophic damage to the equipment and a blackout of the power system.
1. **Equal Voltage Magnitude**
* **Condition**: The terminal voltage of the incoming generator must be equal to the voltage of the bus-bars. In practice, the incoming generator's voltage is adjusted to be slightly higher (approximately 0.5% to 1%) than the bus-bar voltage.
