### (a) Requirements of Emergency Source of Electrical Power (SOLAS 74)
As per SOLAS 74, the emergency source of electrical power on a cargo ship must be a self-contained unit with specific capabilities and endurance. Its primary requirements are:
1. **Sufficiency and Simultaneous Operation**: The electrical power available must be sufficient to supply all services essential for safety in an emergency. Crucially, it must account for simultaneous operation of these services, considering the high starting currents of motors and the transitory nature of certain loads.
2. **Location**: The emergency source of power, its associated transforming equipment (if any), the transitional source of emergency power, and the emergency switchboard shall be located above the uppermost continuous deck and shall be readily accessible from the open deck. They shall not be located forward of the collision bulkhead.
