Reference Answer

### (a) Exhaust Gas Economizer (EGE)
An Exhaust Gas Economizer (EGE), often referred to as an exhaust gas boiler or waste heat boiler, is a critical component in a ship's auxiliary machinery system designed for heat recovery. Its primary purpose is to recover sensible heat from the hot exhaust gases of the main propulsion engine (and sometimes auxiliary engines) that would otherwise be wasted to the atmosphere, and utilize this heat to generate steam. This generated steam can then be used for various shipboard services, such as:
* Fuel oil heating (purifiers, service tanks, settlers, injectors)
* Accommodation heating
