### (a) Statical Stability and Influencing Factors (6 Marks)
**Definition of Statical Stability:**
Statical stability refers to the ability of a vessel to return to its initial upright position after being heeled to a static angle by an external force (such as wind or waves). It is a measure of the righting moment generated at any angle of inclination. The principles of statical stability are based on the relative positions of the vessel's Centre of Gravity (G) and its Centre of Buoyancy (B).
1. **Centre of Gravity (G):** The single point through which the total weight of the ship and everything on board is considered to act vertically downwards.
