Reference Answer

### (a) Principle of Osmosis and Reverse Osmosis
#### (i) Osmosis (6 Marks)
**Definition:**
Osmosis is a naturally occurring phenomenon where a solvent, such as water, spontaneously passes through a semi-permeable membrane from a region of low solute concentration (high water potential) to a region of high solute concentration (low water potential). The objective of this movement is to equalize the solute concentrations on both sides of the membrane.
