### Introduction to the ISPS Code
The International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code is a comprehensive set of measures to enhance the security of ships and port facilities. It was developed by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in response to the perceived threats to ships and port facilities in the wake of the 9/11 attacks in the United States. The ISPS Code is implemented through Chapter XI-2 of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS).
The main objectives of the ISPS Code are:
* To establish an international framework involving co-operation between Contracting Governments, Government agencies, local administrations, and the shipping and port industries to detect and assess security threats and take preventive measures against security incidents affecting ships or port facilities used in international trade.
