(b) Why is a Boiler water circulating pump required for ships fitted with an Exhaust gas Economiser? Explain with a line diagram.

Reference Answer

### (a) Accumulation of Pressure Test
#### 1. Concept and Purpose
The Accumulation of Pressure Test is a mandatory statutory and Class survey requirement performed on a boiler's safety valves. Its primary purpose is to verify that the relieving capacity of the safety valve(s) is adequate to discharge all the steam the boiler can generate at its maximum firing rate without allowing the boiler pressure to rise beyond a specified safe limit.
This test critically demonstrates the safety valve's ability to prevent a catastrophic over-pressurization of the boiler under the worst-case scenario (i.e., main steam stop valve is closed while the boiler is at full firing).
