**1. Explanation of Surging:**
Turbocharger surging is an unstable operating condition characterized by rapid, cyclical fluctuations in the airflow, pressure, and sometimes rotational speed on the compressor side of the turbocharger. It typically manifests as a distinct "whooshing" or "bellowing" sound. Essentially, the compressor temporarily loses its ability to maintain a stable flow of air against the pressure in the scavenge air receiver and begins to stall, reverse flow, and then re-establish flow, only to repeat the cycle.
