(b) Hydrostatic Release Unit (HRU) (5)

(c) Pyrotechnics (5)

(d) Muster list indicating essential elements (5)

Reference Answer

### (a) EPIRB and SART
**1. EPIRB (Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon)**
* **Concept and Purpose**: An EPIRB is a self-contained radio transmitter designed to operate in conjunction with a satellite system to alert search and rescue (SAR) authorities to an emergency and to home in on the distress incident. Its primary function is to transmit a distress signal containing unique identification data, thereby initiating a rescue operation.
* **Operating Principle**: EPIRBs operate on the Cospas-Sarsat international satellite system. When activated, it transmits a distress alert on the 406 MHz frequency to polar-orbiting and geostationary satellites. These satellites relay the signal to ground stations (LUTs – Local User Terminals), which process the information and forward it to a Mission Control Centre (MCC). The MCC then alerts the appropriate Rescue Coordination Centre (RCC).
